Independent Living (IL)

  • Program scattered-site apartments. We learned early on that teaching independent living skills is not enough. Youth must also have the opportunity to practice what they have been taught. In response, GP Services will have a Scattered-Site IL Program. GP Services assists youth in establishing themselves in an appropriate community setting.

  • As program participants, these youth will receive stipend dollars, as well as income from any employment, to pay for their monthly expenses. The amount of the monthly stipend is based on such living expenses as rent and utilities. Stipends will have a, not yet determined, range amount.

  • The Emancipation Department assists youth in securing employment and housing, setting up a budget, shopping, and with all of the anticipated fears and adjustments people face when they go out on their own.

  • Budgets will be designed so that, as the months’ progress, youth assume more and more of the expenses from their employment income and less from their stipend check. The goal is that GP Services will motivate youth to become financially independent several months before their case is closed.
